As an adult, working in an office environment, stationery items and office product supplies are just as important as the school child and their Transformers pencil case. But just what does the modern office worker need in their own collection of tools?
Here's a list of the top six items in a grown-up's pencil case:
1. Pens and pencils
Like youngsters, adults need plenty of pens and (to a lesser extent) pencils to do their job properly. Just like at school, they still go missing frequently, which is why most companies buy them in bulk.
2. Highlighters
When it comes to sifting through vast amounts of research, facts, figures, documents and reports, luminous greens, yellows and pinks come in very handy.
3. Hole-punch
While computers mean there's less paperwork around offices nowadays, there's still a need for hard-copy back-ups. And some people still prefer traditional methods of storage. When that means using a ring-binder or lever arch file, a hole-punch is never far away.
4. Post it notes
The modern office is covered in post it notes. With the adult mind struggling to manage all of the information it receives during the week, little reminders on yellow stickies covering the frame of the computer prove incredibly helpful.
5. Sellotape
While not always needed on a daily basis, Sellotape remains an important part of every office worker's armoury. If sending packages, creating presentations or repairing incorrectly torn up memos, sticky tape is a must.
6. Stapler
Office workers are forever having to bind together multiple pages of an important document, either for personal storage or to hand out amongst fellow colleagues and the stapler remains an important fixture of a professional's pencil case.
If you're an office worker, then it may be time to update your pencil case.
